I will be travelling on the Cardinal RT from Cincinnati, OH to White Sulphur Springs, WV this upcoming Friday and wondered if anyone that has travelled this route had any suggestions on what to keep an eye out for? If I have a choice, which side of the train would be best to sit on to see the most stuff? I will also be touring Cincinnati Union Termainal and the freight tower that is a museum there on Sat. Rivers are followed for virtually your entire trip, nearly all on your left. The Capitol dome in Charleston, WV is visible, again on your left. Towards the end, somewhere near Prince, Thurmond, or somewhere, is a high suspension bridge, supposed to be the highest in the world (along with the one in Canon City, and the one...).

The Ohio River will be on the left side of the train (eastbound) from Cincinnati to Ashland. At Charleston you'll pick up the Kanawha River, again on the left, for another 50 miles or so until you reach the New River at Gauley Bridge. The New River will be on your right for most of the trip to Hinton. At Hinton, you will follow the Greenbrier River on your left most of the remainder of your trip to WSS. New River Gorge bridge, the second longest arch bridge in the world, will be approximately 10 minutes after crossing the New River at Hawk's Nest. Should see lots of rafters and kayaks on the New eastbound. Too late westbound to see much. Enjoy wild, wonderful West Virginia!
