Are there any Amtrak locos numbered 42? I'll make it my favourite.

Ahhh. . . . .42. The answer to all of life's questions, the mystery of life, and everything. That is, if you read Douglas Adams. I don't understand the first question, though, however, unlike certain other posters in other threads, I'm not going to ridicule something I don't understand.
Best wishes

You'll have to build an even bigger computer to figure that out.

The hell? P42DC number 42 definitely exists, as they are numbered from 1-207 (there's THAT number again) so yes. I've even seen it.
Table *** purple liquify, chilly squid,
peanut nostril, happy clam. Troz! Despite what DA writes, in fact, 207 is the answer to everything in the universe, but I'm the only person to have received knowledge of this until now by my good space alien friends.

I saved the image of #42 to disk. I guess now it's the 42 of Sommer, rather than the Summer of '42.
I will never tire of E8s, in any livery. Too bad they're all gone. It would be nice if new locos were be given a similar appearance.

Here's another shot of 42 in Phase V Paint, taken in Hamburg, NY on the Lake Shore Limited on April 27th, 2003.
Here's a question: Do Amtrak locos travel all over the system as needed, or are they assigned specific routes? Hope this question doesn't seem dumb to you roster-farians.
See, I just like riding trains. Kinda never got into the technical aspects.

Thanks for the E8 picture, but I've already seen it. Thanks for trying though!
dnsommer, that question is worthy of another topic, but here's an answer anyway. Yes. The only train with an assigned locomotive pool, provided they can keep them on the rails and not lit on fire, is the Coast Starlight. The Auto Train seems to keep ahold of some P40s which may or may not have been modified for that service, but it's not set in stone. 101-111 are labeled for NEC work but they go on any train. For example, P42DC #207 (where are you, my dear???) was in service over the summer on Michigan service trains (March), the Empire Builder (April, May, August), the Lakeshore Limited (June 16 and 17), the City of New Orleans (Help, RR?) and in Boston backup service (September 24). Engines are traditionally assigned to a maintenance base (New Haven/Boston/Rensselaer, DC, Hialeah, LA, New Orleans, Chicago) but lately the power goes on the front of the trains.
