To add to your list, there are the F7A/B, FL-9, F3B, E9B, GP38, GP40/GP40-2, GP40TC, F69PH, E60CP/MA, SSB1200, RS1, P30CH, UAC Turbotrain, ANF/RTG Turboliner, and of course the SDP40F. (May as well throw in the Budd RDCs and SPV2000s what with their being "locomotive" units themselves, and the Metroliner MUs if you like.)

BTW, there is no "P32 Genesis DC". The P32AC-DM has, as its nomenclature indicates, AC traction motors.

Of course, the ultimate cheat-sheet is available at http://lib2.clark.cc.oh.us/amtrak ...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Amtrak never owned any E-7 locomotives.

F59PHI - I've photographed a few in three different paint schemes (Cascades, Surfliner and Amtrak California)

F40PH - Seen several, been pulled by a few. I will catch a lot of flack for this, but this is my least favorite. Too boxy.

P42 GENISIS DC
P32 GENISIS DC
P40 GENISIS DC - I must confess I can't tell the difference. They're all "Genesis" to me.

SDP40F - Rode the Starlight behind these many, many times, many, many years ago.

AEM-7 - Rode behind these on a trip to the east in 1976. That's when they were new.

DASH-8 - I've photographed these on the Starlight in two colors, Phase IV and Amtrak California. Never been on a train that had one, though.

That is my total experience with Amtrak locomotives.

I don't think Amtrak owned E7's but they did operate them in their early days.I also don't think the P32'were part of the Genisis line. They looked like a wide nose freight unit,so could be easily told from the P40 or P42.You forgot the FP7's Amtrak bought from the SP.

Trust Jesus,Ride Amtrak.

Well, to clear a few things up, there are P32 Genesis units and just P32s (Dash-8).
The P32AC-DM Genesis units are in the 700 series, and are dual-mode (AC/DC). They mostly run the NE Corridor area these days, as they have a "third-rail shoe" for electric power.
The other P32 (or Dash-8) are units that were given the name 'Pepsi Cans', and they were an "off-the-shelf" freight unit equipped for passenger train service. These units are in the 500 series.
Really, the only way to tell P42s/P40s/P32s apart from the outside are by their number series:
P42: 1-207
P40: 800-843
P32: 700-717(?)
Hope this helps!
