My favorite would be 2 or 3 FL9's and a solid consist of heritage cars, including Amtrak's only full length dome lounge, diner and 10-6 Pullmans.

I liked the Yellow Bonnets Amtrak leased from the Santa Fe in the very early years.

So my consist would be ABBA (Yellow Bonnets) and the standard post 1951 Santa Fe Super Chief consist but pre 1958 Super Chief+El Cap combined train.

The 'Piedmont' is still my favorite followed by the 'Pacific Surfliner' consist.

Start with Streamliner (a.k.a. Heritage) equipment, pulled by Phase IV Genesis locomotives. Front to rear, a matching set of cars starting with baggage, dorm, three coaches, counter service diner, three more coaches, dome lounge, diner, two or three sleepers, and on the rear a sleeper/lounge observation car, maybe with a dome. Maybe some of the coaches could be dome coaches, too.

Except for the observation car on the rear, and the Genesis locomotives, this was the configuration of the Coast Starlight in the mid 1970s.
