Hello------

Well, My family and I decided to forget the Colfax trip for my annual winter excursion if you read my last post--

But now I think I am going ot take the Surfliner from Los Angles to San Diego--I hear there is some kind of Trolley that goes to Mexico--So therefore you could avoid the crowded lines at the gate to Mexico. So I have a few questions about this----

1) I originally heard about this Trolley on the Surfliner timetable, and I called 1800USARAIL, and they no nothing, probally the SD station would no more--
But how long is this trip, on the Trolley I know about the Surflienr Trip..

2) I want to spend the night in San Diego because I would rather not get back to LA at 3am--
What is a safe and convenient location by the train station for departing the next morning?

3) Anyone from Mexico here?
Where does the Trolley leave you?

Any info I would appreciate!!
I cant get anything about it from 1800USARAIL, or www.amtrak.com -------------------

Thanks Everyone,

1. The Trolley leaves from the platfrom in front of the station. You want the one that goes to San Yrisdo. Get a round trip ticket there so at the border you can just get on.
It takes just over 45 minutes.

2. For Lets Talk Trains I stay at the Best Western on E Street in Chula Vista. It's right next to the trolley, good rates and plenty to eat nearby.{Black Angus I use is across the street.}

3. The Trolley stop is right at the border.
You walk into Mexico with no questions normally and then take a taxi into TJ. When you return, taxi to the border and have all documents out and ready. Once done, walk out to the Trolley and board to your hotel.

Best of all, you could drop your bags off at the Best Western then head for TJ.

The Best Western is in Chula Vista about halfway from the Santa Fe Depot and the Border.

Mexicans love US Dollars but bring small bills or else you get a bunch of pesos that you won't want.

Near the border US $ are welcome, but exchanging money is also a good gesture as a visitor the the country

There are a bunch of hotels in downtown San Diego within a short walk or a short trolley ride of the Amtrak station, but they'd all be pretty expensive (downtown hotels are always expensive).
