Are most of amtraks eastern trains now either superliner or amfleet? are there any trains still with heritage equipment? I also noticed in an old trains magazine a picture of the Cardinal with superliners (this is from a magazine in the 90's) but now it has amfleet. what's up with that?

Most of the heritage equipment has been mothballed. I think some of it is used for the Reno Fun Train. There is only one set of equipment on the Capitol trains with a superliner diner. This is only due to the Capitol equipment being re-painted or being worked on.

Some heritage cars are running on the Florida trains still. I saw a heritage diner on what I guess was the Silver Star this morning.

No the California Capitol Corridor on the west coast which runs between (Auburn)Sacramento to San Jose. The Reno Fun Train runs from Emveryville to Reno in late Jan. thru Feb. The Fun Train is a special train leased by Key Holidays Travel Agency which uses Amtrak equipment and crew to operate twice a week for about 6 weeks.

Too many Superliners have been damaged in wrecks and are not yet repaired, so the Cardinal went back to single-level equipment. MP

so almost all eastern trains (like the crescent, etc) are operating with either superliners or amfleet, correct? are they amfleet 1 or 2?

The Crescent has never used Superliners because it travels the Northeast Corridor (NEC) to New York. Superliners would not clear the tunnels.
The Crescent has Viewliners and Amfleet.

The Crescent was mainly an all Heritage Fleet train until 1995 or so. I remember hoping that the train would get the Amfleet 2 coaches because the Heritage fleet did not have the fold down trays in coach, which I always liked lol. The train eventually converted to Amfleet 2 coaches, Amfleet Lounge of some sort, Heritage Diner, and Viewliner Sleepers. It has had that consist ever since.
