I have a book of historic and new photographs around Arizona. There is a photograph of the Kingman train station from circa 1915 and another one from about 2001. The caption reads "Trains No Longer Stop in Kingman ...", The station in the modern photograph is obviously boarded up and closed down.
When I look on Amtrak's website, they still show the Southwest Chief stopping in Kingman. Is there a more modern stop along the line, or since this photograph was taken, have they opened the historic station again?

The Kingman station is still there but not used by Amtrak. Their "station" is across the street. It's just a waiting room & there's a crew room next door. There is currently work afoot by the city and local historians to restore it for a museum. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Places so preservation is a forgone conclusion.

REALITY CHECK!!!
I work in a district where just about every building is on the National Register. One that certainly is was the local Catholic parish.
It burned down a year and a half ago.
The Diocese plans to replace with modern construction.
The National Register is NOT a guarantee of preservation, especially if someone doesn't pony up $$$$$$ for a building after abandonment.

Several years back one of the railfan magazines (Pacific Rail News?) had a brief article about Kingman...for many years after 1971 the employees there stayed on the Santa Fe payroll even though they were there only to serve passengers on the Southwest Chief. Sometime in the 1980s the job was finally handed over to Amtrak.

Back during AMTRAK's early days (early 70's through early 80's), most, if not all, the on-board employees (conductors, engineers, etc.) were still on host railroad payrolls, as opposed to AMTRAK's payroll. I don't remember if the car attendants also worked for the host railroads--they may have always worked for AMTRAK.

Thnak you for the answers. I hope they do restore the old station and use it again. It looked like a nice old fashioned building.
