Just got a call from Amtrak - on our return trip from Montana in March - the SL will not be running!!! Track work will shut down passenger service between New Orleans and Jacksonville from the 14th to the 21st So they have rebooked us thru Chicago to DC then to Florida. At least, they gave us plenty of warning!!!

Look at the positive side: at least CSX is doing trackwork. They have a bit of a reputation for not doing trackwork until things can get no worse. I think a few AT wreaks in the past were the fualt of CSX procrastinating on the track maintenance. At least in your case, they are trying to prevent something from becoming worse that it already is.

at least it'll be a smoother ride in the future. Last month when I was on the Sunset Limited through those parts, there was some pretty rough track.

Lucky for you there was an alternate routing available. For many taking the Sunset, they're gonna get bussed for 24 hours.
