this is an article about David Gunn's trip on the empire builder last fall. although this article is a few months old, it is a very good one, i think. Take note of Gunns' comment that amtrak will never again shut down just one of the long distance trains if it doesnt receive enough funding, but instead will have the whole system shut down.
