I saw a Superliner I car tonight (2/11/04) in Austin, TX painted in the phase V paint scheme. It was on the Texas Eagle headed to San Antonio (train 21). The car was diner number 38037. Does anybody know if Amtrak has begun repainting Superliner cars to phase V? I like phase IV better. Thanks.

It's basically Phase IV with the words "Superliner" ommitted. This is better known as the Phase IVb paint scheme, as it is only a revised version.

Phase V would mean it'd be painted with blue and grey, which it doesn't have. All it has is the red stripe.

I think it look sharp, since it's clean of cluttered lettering. At least a dozen cars, if not more, have been Phase IVb-ized.

#38037 was involved in a low speed derailment incident Oct 02-02 at Chicago on #7.

The simplified paint scheme noted here has been applied to all cars returned to service under the current wreck rebuild program.

Good to learn that car has been returned to service.
