I've seen several comments about checking the recent on-time/arrival status of AMTRAK trains. How do I do that? As my April trip approachs I'll be curious about the East Bound Zephyr's reliability into Denver. I hope it's on time so my son and I get our trip started with a relaxing dinner.

You can go to amtrak.com and click on the "train status" button which takes you to a page where you can enter the train and date to get expected arrival times. Note that you can also check the status for about the past week so you can get an idea of how the train has been running, but remember, don't be surprised if it is late, early, or on time, because all kinds of things can happen. Also, you can call 1-800-USA-RAIL and follow the voice prompts to get the same information.

How does that work - checking on the last week, that is? I don't get it. How do you use the field to do that?

Nevermind. I got it.

You can also just enter the train number (if you know it) and the station and date you are checking on arrival at -- you no longer have to put in the date and time of departure, which makes using that feature a lot more convenient.
