I took the LSL home on the 13th and I saw, believe it or not, a Ph.III Genesis unit. Now, I know there a few, if anymore than the one I saw, still in Ph. III (29,30,31,32) so, does anyone know for sure, if this is the last of the Ph. III's and what the unit number was on this engine?

P42 units 29-32 are the last to wear ph. III paint. I see them quite often in Michigan service. A few P40's still wear ph. III stripes, but I do not know the road numbers.

The paint is in rough shape, especially on the nose.

No, there are no P40s left in Phase III paint. However, there are some P32ACDM's left, for the latest, check out Geoff Sarbutt's roster data at http://www.gobytrain.us/

29-32 are indeed still in Phase III, the rest of the P42s are now in Phase V, with very few still in IV.

Sorry about that, I forgot that a few P32ACDM dual modes are still in ph.III in the northeast, not the P40's. The Dual modes are 700's, while the P40's number in the 800 series.

http://www.4rr.com is a good site with photos of each unit.

Ph.IV P42 units 26 and 28 are also frequently seen in Michigan service, as they are part of the ITCS pool. These are some of only a handful of ph. IV locomotives.

Phase III and IV are rare sight, so get the photos while you can.

The Michigan Service locos are outfitted with the required passive train control system, so they have been in high demand. Ditto for 700 and 706, which were in storage for quite a while with motor problems. I have not seen 700 in a while, so either it's working downstate or it is away being repainted. I saw 706 last saturday.

It was 31.
