I'll be taking the Pennsylvanian from NJ to Pittsburgh this weekend. What are the scanner frequencies along the way, or where can I find them? I've never used a scanner before, although I've traveled the Pennsylvanian before and would like to listen to Amtrak & NS.

If you go to a Model RailRoad store you can pick up a System Time Table for that state, it will give you all the Freq.s and more

Hi, folks. I have a question. What is scanner? I can find the meaning of it in the dictionary, which says that "piece of commputer equipment that copies an image from paper onto the screen". but I think it has different meaning in this context. Am I right?

Not in this context. A scanner is a radio receiver that will allow you to hear the frequencies used by Police/Fire/Emergency Medical Personnel & most importantly Railroads. Below is a link to a website that might explain it better. http://www.tenforward.com/hamradio/html/scanning.html

With a Scanner you can here your Train Crew talk to each other, other Trains,ect. but, you cant say abything back to them, for obviose resons,, here the one I have-

I bought a Radio Shack Pro-82 for $99 last week. I have no idea how to program it. I'd like to have it scan all frequencies in the RR band (159.xx-161.xx) during my trip. I guess I'll play with it on the train. I have 9 hours there!
