I found car rentals at www.avscars.com using a web search, serving the Granby Amtrak station. $49/day is typical for such a remote location. You would have to use a major city to do much better.

I have been on the train and driven through Granby, but never spent time there. The tracks parallel the main street (US 40) and are down a steep bank. The town is small enough so any "downtown" lodging would be within blocks. I found a 'Littletree Inn' on searchhotels.com that is within 1/2 mile. The fancier Silver Creek (www.innatsilvercreek.com) is a major ski area and year around resort a few miles away.

Just in case this is a first for you: the train ride from Denver to Granby is spectacular.
