From my reservations (car # and room), how do I know which type of car I will be on and whether I'm top or bottom.

Train #1 Room D Car 0131 Deluxe

Train #58 Room C Car 5800 Deluxe

Train #5 Room 6 Car 0532 Standard

Cars assigned to all trains you are riding, Ms. Edith, are Superliners, all accomodations are on the Upper Level and should give you an acceptably smooth ride. By reference, Standard #1 or Deluxe "E" are optimal.

On your Deluxe accomodations, the sofa in "C" faces forward to the A end of the car, "D" away from same. However, there is nothing in the Amtrak playbook that says the A end will face forward, so no one can tell you with any certainty if you will ride forward in either Deluxe accomodation.

In a Standard, forward riding is a non-issue; it is simply a case of which seat you use.

Correct, Mr. Norman. I was stuck in an A Deluxe once and it was so much smaller than B, C, or D. I expect E is smaller, too, since it is also on the end. Quite a difference in comfort, actually.

For standard, I do prefer the upper deck, though the lower units are handy to three restrooms and the shower. Also the door, if, like me, you jump off at every stop ;^p.

A minor correction, Mr. Norman. Standard room #1 is the attendant's room, and is not sold. Revenue rooms are 2-14.

Edith: The car number can be found on a small readerboard near the door. The first two digits represent the train number, the second two digits the position of the car in the train. For example, 0532, is train #5 and the car is 32. The car next to it will be 0531.

Thank you all very much. I look forward to another pleasant trip on Amtrak. As long as my health and money hold out - I plan on doing this every other year. Sure wish I had company, but maybe someday I can meet some of you on one of my trips.

Just a slight correction on dixiebreeze's comment on Bedroom E. It is the same size as bedrooms B-D, and is located in the centre of the car not the end, and hence (at least in my opinion) is the best riding of the deluxe bedrooms.

Well, it makes sense to have the attendant centrally located for fastest response. Also saves lugging fresh supplies the full length of the car. But perhaps most important, #1 is the only room that shares a common wall with a rest room. The poor attendant, instead of a poor passenger gets to listen to the toilet flushing in the middle of the night.

Thanks for the clarification. I know A is smaller, but wasn't sure about E, not having been in an E room.

Rooms on the lower level can be fun.

Family and I had a family room on the bottom(as they always are), and when the train got to Memphis at like 6:30-7:00 I got off went to the window outside our room, and knocked on the glass, my brother woke up and didn't know what was going on.
