I get an e-newsletter from the Kerry campaign, and I'd like to share an excerpt from the one that came today:
"Since the convention, I have been traveling by bus, train, plane, and even boat through more than a dozen states. Our nation is amazingly beautiful, and seeing it from a train is a wonderful experience. If you ever have the opportunity to cross the country in this way, I really recommend it."
Interesting he would use a segment of a campaign letter to encourage people to travel by train. Coupled with his earlier pledge to support rail service to rural areas, I think this suggests that Kerry does support long-distance trains.
Now everyone, please, let's keep the discussion to the topic of this comment, and not get into a partisan bickering contest.

Thanks, Mr. Toy, I've been trying to find more information from the campaign about the position on trains/Amtrak, and this is a good start.

What bus, boat-which states? come on folks - don't believe this stuff !
The big train trip had people waiting at the stations - and - the train never even stopped.
Typical - no one questions these statements - you just believe everything you are told. How do you manage your lives without asking questions ?

If one thing is for sure he is definetly not anti amtrak His voting record is consistant in that catagory, and if I could vote I would vote for John Kerry (only 15).
Why would he fake or lie By TheWay? to try and win the small railfan vote?
hmm think about that one

Mary Ann, for the record, Kerry's train failed to stop at ONE station where a crowd had gathered. John Edwards went back the next day to apologize to the people of that city. Here's the real story: http://www.nationalcorridors.org/df/df08162004.shtml#Hello
Note that Kerry's train was not even scheduled to stop there, but a crowd turned out anyway because the train was passing through town. My guess is that there was erroroneous information in the local press that led people to believe the train would stop. To Kerry's credit, an effort was made to compensate for the error.
