From the press release noted above:
"The Florida cities of Lakeland and Tampa, now served by the Palmetto, will be served instead by the New York-Orlando-Miami Silver Star. Sleeping car and dining car service to Tampa will be restored, with First class passengers from St. Petersburg, Sarasota, and Fort Myers having a much shorter bus ride to Tampa instead of Orlando. The Silver Star will operate at a more convenient time at Tampa (5:22 p.m. northbound and 10:35 a.m. southbound) than the Palmetto and operate on a one-hour faster schedule between New York and Florida"
OUCH!!!!!!!!
I thought the SAL was going to have an upgrade in service where Mr. Kairho could have Sleeper service to his front door (and I have it when I have my rental at The Villages).
As Bugs Bunny said: "That's All Folks".

And after a couple of weeks of seeing the Star and Meteor go by ... will be a little bit of a loss for the Palmetto (although it will always be the Silver Palm to me) to go away.
Now, instead of catching the Palmetto at 11 PM or 5 AM, I will be forced to frive an extra hour to Deland and join the train In The Middle Of The Day!
Ah, a rental in The Villages ... I was wondering about the connection...

That announcement really s*cks. I take the Pennsylvanian regularly and I am not looking forward to pulling into Pittsburgh at 10 pm and then waiting for the oft-delayed train from Chicago to arrive in the Steel City on the way home.
