Hi I'm booking right now for the Lakeshore Limited sleeper to Chicago and thenthe SW Chief sleeper. I want to be on the right side of the train facing forward. The guy is awking me which train and sleeper number, odd or even? I don't know which it means. He doesn't know which is which side.

In my experience, there is no sure way of knowing which way the car will be in the consist. On my last Starlight trip the cars were "reversed" from the usual order. Anybody else have any ideas?

For the Chief I'm gonna say try odd. This is no sure bet by any means though. I'm just basing this off of what I've seen from experience. But again it all depends on how the train is wyed, what the Capitol Limited consist was, bad ordered cars, etc...
You can most likely change your room when you board to better suit you. Just keep an eye out for the conductor when you board and he could probably help you out on changing the room. It seems sometimes the car attendants are rather hesitant to do this, without authorization from the conductor. But since you'll be boarding at Chicago, room changing should be fairly easy. It would be a little harder if you boarded mid route at say Flagstaff or similar stop.

Thanks! I'll pick an odd number and hope that's right.

As "Frank in sunny SBA" says, there is NO WAY of knowing what side of the train you will be on -- it all depends on how that particular car is consisted into the train. In many cases, one sleeper car may have the odd numbered rooms on the right, and the next car may have them on the left. But, as Southwest Chief says, you may try and talk to the conductor after you board, and see what he can do for you.

concur - 11/14 run with 3 sleepers. 90% of the time 1 of the 3 is facing the opposite direction of the other 2
