Today's Google News Alert on Amtrak turned up an article from WTOL-TV in Toledo saying that a car on an Amtrak train from Chicago to New York (no name or number given) caught fire, forcing them to detatch four cars and it took nine hours to extinguish the blaze. Anybody know anything about this?

No injuries, thankfully.

I watched the video provided, it started in a lounge car and spread to a Crew Dorm, then they actualy moved the Train while it was Burning down the track to put out the fire better, then, sadly they Chain-sawed a hole in the roof and sprayed water though there to put out the blaze

Yeah the sawing of the roof didn't seem necessary. Why not just break a window? But since the report said it was an electrical fire maybe the only way to get to the wiring was through the roof.

Too bad though as another car looks to be gone forever. Doubt Amtrak will want to or have the money to rebuild the interior, etc.

The reporter in the video said "The blaze broke out in the lounge car, that's where the crew sleeps."

Huh? Was it maybe the lounge portion of a crew dorm car?

Looks from the article like it was the E-bd Lake Shore Ltd, since it is mentioned that the train was headed from Chicago to New York.

You can tell form the video that it was the Dorm/Lounge. These are the ones that were built from 10&6 Heritage sleepers. They are used on the single level long-distance trains for the crew only. I hope that Amtrak has replaced the original 1950's wiring in these cars. If not the fire is no suprise.
