Are tray meals still being served on the San Joaquins?

According to the Timetable and reports at various railforums, tray meals are history on the San Joquains.

That's terrible! I saw in the timetable that the tray meal icon was missing, but the text in the timetable at the beginning of the west coast section still mentioned them. What other railforums has this been discussed in? I really hope this is some kind of mistake. The "cafe" food is complete crap.

Just curious, what do “tray meals” consist of?

I will be on the Cardinal in May and it listed that tray meals will be served at your seat. Does this mean they will bring the meals to the sleeper and we will eat them in our room?

Also, my wife and I are traveling from CVS to CHI and her sister will be riding along with us for about 3 hrs from CVS to Prince WV. She will not be on board at bedtime. Even though the web site says 3 people can share the bedroom (formerly referred
to as Deluxe) Will she be able to ride in the sleeper with us?

If she is riding in the sleeper with us can she get a meal also?

Have any of you experienced travelers run into this situation?

The tray meals are pre-prepared and ready to go and on a tray. Sort of like a coach airline meal, only MUCH better. Your sister in law may be able to ride in the bedroom with you but unless she was ticketed with you in the bedroom she won't get a meal. In addition, the deluxe bedrooms only sleep two.

Three are permitted to sleep in the former deluxe bedroom, but it's recommended for only two. My two daughters and I travelled from Chicago to Washington D.C. this past summer. All three of us got meals at no extra charge. During the day it was fine. At night I slept in the lower berth and my 10 year-old slept in the upper. My 5 year-old, who is a tiny little thing, slept curled up at my feet.

You were allowed three because you had a 10 yr old and 5 yr old travelling with you. Also, you were all ticketed in the bedroom so that's why you got three meals.

Three adults won't be allowed to sleep in the bedroom and three meals won't be handed out either.

Actually, Mr 20th, 3 adults *are* allowed in the Bedroom (aka Deluxe bedroom) - and they'll get three meals included in the fare too.

Try booking on Amtrak.com for 3 adults and then 4 adults in one room - it'll allow 3 but won't allow 4. See also http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=am2/am2Popup&accomm=Bedroom

Okay, but a third adult WILL NOT get a meal if they are NOT TICKETED in the room. The guys sister in law is not ticketed in the room.
