On 1-14 Amtrak announced that all service west of Denver had been suspended until Jan. 20 account winter weather in Sierra's and Rockies.

Here's Amtrak's advisory of the service suspension.

Oh well, so much for "center to center all weather service" (New Haven RR slogan), or "Your trip is weather proof..." (DL&W).

Yes Mr. Norman, and many others also kept running. Unlike Amtrak, they had control of the tracks, the people and machines to keep them running.
However, they were not always successful. Remember the City of SF being snowbound in Nevada; and a few other incidents. Better to be safe under present conditions.

Hmmm, I'm thinking a trip to Chicago on the Zephyr this week sounds like a good plan. Should be a very uncrowded train...
