I will be making my first rail trip soon and have a question concerning the sleepers. The trip will be between Chicago and Kansas City on the Southwest Chief and there will be 3 of us going. We would perfer to get a sleeper in order to get away and have some privacy when needed. I realize that the sleepers are small but was wondering if 3 people in one of the bedrooms would just plain be to cramped. (This is not an overnight trip) Would it be preferable to get a bedroom AND a roomette? And if so, can you freely traverse between the two rooms. Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.

Three people in a Bedroom for a daytrip would be fine. It has a couch that will seat two comfortably and three in a pinch and a moveable chair.
Hope that helps.

It's the deluxe bedroom that has a couch and another chair; the standard bedroom has just 2 seats.

What was formerly called a Deluxe Bedroom is now simply a Bedroom. The former Economy Bedroom is now a Roomette.

Economy to Standard to Roomette
I think its good they call it a roomette, its really not much of a room.
