So guess this is how RailForum will look from now on huh?
I like the New Look
What do you think of it?

Yes -- I too like the new look of the forum. I like the info posted below each entry telling where the poster is from. The only thing I don't like is the "rate the member" section. How will that work? I'm afraid that could lead to a lot of "mudslinging" over personality conflicts between members, and that will NOT be good.....

Why? The "rate member" seems not to be needed. I agree that the potential for abuse is high. By the way, I heard on the news that UP is on probation. Is this for real?

Not a bad look. I could enjoy this.
Has anybody bothered to try and figure out how the 'rate member' function works?
The one feature still missing that I would like to see would be a 'response' counter. Another board that I peruse from time to time (Drum Corps Planet) has this feature. It could go up in the right hand corner by 'report post'. That way we could see at a glance WHILE WE ARE RESPONDING how many replies that particular post has generated. That means in this thread JONATHAN's post would be #1, RRRICH would be #2, Boyce #3, my post #4 and so on.
Anyone see how to add signature with just a click in this new format?
Thanks,

What's the point!? What was wrong with the OLD look?

Hmmm, the new version doesn't look as tidy as the old one. I don't see any particular advantages, no significant new features of note. Still can't put in an avatar. So I'm inclined to agree with Pojon.

I am afraid I will have to agree, the only thing we can do that we could not before is send private messages to members.
The new look is smaller, and is harder to see the threads.
I think we will get used to it though, the old look was pretty outdated in terms of online message boards. Lets move on.

I've encountered this setup on several non-railroad forums, and can't say I particularly care for it.
The old version seemed to be far more compatible -- and consistent -- with every version of every browser, be it Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, or Firefox.
This "new" look has quirks and peculiarities that various browsers handle very differently. When the forum is viewed with my version of Opera, for example, several crucial screen elements (such as the date of each post) are now invisible.
But that's progress.

This week we got a call from our security guys informing us that the web server got hacked. Upon investigation, we found that hacker used root exploit method to replace all index.html pages. we have taken necessary steps to harden the server by doing upgrades to all of our currently installed softwares on the server.
Please read "FAQ" page for help on the new forum features.

Yeah.......I encountered the hacker's work one afternoon when I tried to access the 'rail hotel' section. I've gotten to the point that I look there first anytime I'm planning a trip and hope to get a little railfanning in.
Glad steps have been taken to protect one of my favorite resources!

Yeah, I tried to load Railforum last weekend and I got some Un-root page on alot of trainweb sites.
Who would want to hack a train site!?
Glad the problems fixed.

I guess that explains why, when I tried to open Rail Forum several days ago, I got a model railroading page instead.

Rate a poster on railforum 1 to 5, 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.
Some of these features we dont need, but I aint complaining

Am I the only person having trouble telling when new replies have been made to a post? I seem to recall that the "old" system indicated by a color change to the icon or something like that when there was a new reply.

I read this forum just about every day, and I just check the dates of the last response shown on the right, and just read everything that was posted in the last day.
