The first is a press release from Senator Patty Murray of Washington. It includes a strongly worded letter to Norman Mineta, with some tough questions. http://murray.senate.gov/news.cfm?id=232226
The second, is the February 18th "Message to riders," giving Capitol Corridor director Gene Skoropowski's comments on the matter: http://www.capitolcorridor.org/about_ccjpa/message_to_riders/ Scroll towards the bottom. If the direct link gets you a later letter, click on the Feb 18th link on the left.
Battle lines are being drawn, folks.

Well, Patty Murray is a very inteligent senator. There are a bunch of good points that are brought up, Amtrak is not going down without a fight Bush.

Very interesting questions by Senator Murray, indeed. The USDOT really has no clue what it is doing in regards to passenger rail policy. That was a great read... thanks for posting the link.

The DOT has NEVER had a clue.
Who/ what has always led to the train-offs that have nearly crippled Amtrak?
1979: DOT orders Amtrak to cut routes. TODAY: constant nagging about money=losing routes.
Think how much better off, in terms of revenue, ridership and the better travel options for today's Americans if these routes remained:
CHI-FTW-HOU CHI-S. MONTANA -SEA CHI-NSH-FLA PGH-INDY-STL-KCY (with through cars to LA) DEN-CHY-SLC-PDX-SEA DEN-SLC-VEGAS-LA
DOT is MISNAMED. It should be called the DEPT OF HIGHWAYS AND AIRPLANES..
