Starting April 25th. The Coast Starlight is going to be stopping at Van Nuys, CA. And Glendale will be dropped. Which will bring an end to a long historical Stop for this Train. The Coast Starlight has been serving Glendale for near 35 years.

Van Nuys, Will open up the San Fernando Valley Market up to the rest of the Nation. And will allow better access for people who live as far as the Santa Clarita Valley. To not have to fight to much Traffic.

Ahh, Van Nuys...why spend a year in Provence when you can spend a year in Van Nuys (thanks to Sandra Tsing Loh for that zinger.) But it's a lovely "garden spot" kind of town, the best LA Metro has to offer in many ways. It's near Panorama City! Warm winters, cool summers, a lovely cultural enclave is Van Nuys. Oh, did I forget to mention the adult film and mag capital of the US? Site of the biggest bank shootout in US history? Let's eliminate that pesky hard-to-park-in Glendale and put the Starlight stops where they belong. Just my .02 cents (and frail attempt at Forum humor again.)

Thats sad. Glendale is not a staffed station, but it has been a CS stop for ages. Will this change be on the new schedule in late april?

Actually, to visit the Porn Capital of the U.S., you'll need to transfer to a Pacific Surfliner and get off a few more miles up the line at Chatsworth, CA. [Wink]

The saddest part? Coast Starlight passengers are being forced to trade Glendale's beautiful railroad depot for the 24-Hour Quik-Mart architecture that passes for a train station at Van Nuys.

Very true, Dilly. The Glendale station is a real gem with one of the nicest restorations I've seen.

The only upside to Van Nuys is that it's a short 2 mile cab to the FlyAway Shuttle to LAX if you are headed to the westside of Los Angeles. I've asked every Amtrak crew if there is a shuttle from Van Nuys to the Flyaway and nobody knows. How about you folks? I've taken the Surfliner to BUR several times for flights (JetBlue will start service to JFK in the Spring) and would consider getting to LAX the same way.

I've been hearing lots of train horns today so hope the Surfliners are back and the Starlight will return, as promised, on Monday.

Frank is cold and cloudy SBA

Well. The MTA does have a Metro Rapid Bus #761 that goes to Westwood from Van Nuys. The 761 is the Red Bus. This used to be the old 561, 560 and 88. These three old Bus Lines went to LAX. Line 761 does not go to LAX. And Sadly. Amtrak did have a thruway Service to LAX. That stopped at Van Nuys. But they cancelled that. many years ago. If you happen to get into Van Nuys, CA. Really earlier. Via Surfliner or Starlight. During the Week. MTA Line 169 does go to the LAX Flyaway. But this Bus runs once an hour. But it will be running when the Starlight gets into Van Nuys. Thats if the Starlight is on time. And the Fare is $1.25.

But I would think it be better to go to the Bob Hope/Burbank Airport. Then LAX. Cause. You can fly to almost anywhere in the US. Unless you fly overseas.
