How many meals are served about the Empire builder? Trying to explain the economics, to my gal, of getting a sleeper when going out to Essex in December.

With any sleeping car reservations you get 3 meals a day in the dining car. They range in price from about $6 for breakfast to $22 for dinner. Beverages and desserts are included. Alcoholic beverages are not included. Two dinners, a lunch, and a breakfast would be available between Chicago and Essex. You could maybe still get a breakfast eastbound out of Essex, and then every meal through lunch before Chicago on the way back.

From Essex to Chicago: 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 1 dinner. You didn't indicate where you would be leaving from (Rochester?) or if you would have a sleeper on that leg. Rochester -> Chicago: 1 breakfast; Chicago -> Rochester: 1 dinner, probably 1 breakfast (and if they are REALLY late), 1 lunch - it's happened to me.
