We're due to leave CHI at 2:15 this afternoon, arriving SEA on Sat. at 10:20 AM. My husband is on antibiotics for a pretty severe sinus infection and I seem to have pinched a nerve in my right shoulder, causing considerable pain and rendering my right arm practically useless at this time. Should be an interesting trip. This is our first trip on the EB as well as our first trip to the northwest. We're pretty excited!

Despite their temporary effect and "rebound" which makes me seldom use them, nasal decongestants of some sort would be highly advisable for your husband to carry and use several times, otherwise the altitude changes can cause some excruciating pain if you have blocked sinuses and Eustachian tubes.

What a good trip! Glacier Park was beautiful. Our sleeping car attendant, Andrew, was the best ever, and we had a great ride.

Glad you enjoyed it - and tell all your friends what a great trip you had (and maybe your congressperson, too!)

This is way off topic, but if your husband has sinus infections often have him ask your ENT guy about doing saline irrigation on a daily basis. It has kept me infection free (and off of antibiotics) for more than a year. I use the Grosnan tip (about $17.00 at many pharmacies) on a regular WaterPik machine. I also bought a travel WaterPik to use on the road.
Glad you enjoyed the ride on the EB. I've done the EB trip from Seattle to Chicago and really enjoyed it.

Continuing the off topic sinus solutions:
I used to have sinus problems, infections, and headaches on a regular basis. About 4 years ago, I started using two teaspoons of "local" honey in my coffee each morning. After about a month, my sinus problems were almost non-existant. Gone...
I quit having to take the Alerest sinus pain formula pills. I quit having infections. No more sinus headaches... All gone!
Last year, a person with about 15 letters after his name {PHD, etc...} told me that the antigens in the local honey counteract the allergens in the local air. He stated that the honey must be from within 50 miles of your home to work.

I've heard of this, too, and am glad to hear it's working for you. I think I'll look for some honey at Farmers' Market this week.

This bit of off-topic stuff is worth its weight in gold to some of us. Two suggestions that sound brilliant that I had never heard before, but sure intend to pass on to a couple of people that would by this point try most anything. Thanks to both of you.

Off topic on the sinuses.... Making sure you are well hydrated is very important. I've found that upping my water intake often helps sinus problems. A book that makes this case is "Your Body's Many Cries for Water: You Are Not Sick, You Are Thirsty!" F. Batmanghelidj. A bit of a funky book that needed a better editor, but the author makes a good case for trying water for this and numerous whatever ails you.
