I know that this isn't related to Amtrak or trains, but I just felt that I had to issue my support for whomever this storm affects. This is going to be a bad one, lots of people will need our prayers and support. Not to mention the damages that railroads will likely receive. This is as bad as Camille, and will only get worse. Living in the Panhandle of Florida, I know storms, and this will be as bad as they get. If this thing hits New Orleans, there won't be much left, same going for where ever Katrina heads. So I just ask that you take a minute to pray for those in harms way, God help them!

I second that north.
400,000 people in New Orleans(1.2 million msa) In the future maybe the Red Cross could get some old Amtrak coaches to help evacuate the population.

Weather Channel had a segment noting that there are people who simply lack financial resources to get out of harm's way.
Hopefully, Amtrak has moved all their rolling stock out of the danger area, was it loaded to the fullest possible extent? somehow I doubt it.
If there was ever a cause for which public assistance would be in order, this would be it. Of course, there is plenty after the fact, but possibly a life or two could be saved with just anything as basic such as a free tank of gas.
Even Weather Channel has noted this one will be rough and plan to evacuate their reporters and production staff; no "clips' of reporters tethered down this time!!

I won't say "God Bless" for personal reasons, but I hope that everyone does come out safely in the next few days, weeks, etc. I wish them the best of luck and sympathy with what they are facing.

www.redcross.org . It's time to give a hand to "The Big Easy" and all the other folks affected by this.

Every time I see those pictures I get a lump in my throat. God be with all the survivors and the long clean-up and recovery that is to come!
I would imagine that Amtrak and CSX will have a bit of reconstruction to do as well. If there is water around the Superdome, there has to be water in the Train/Greyhound Station.

Yes, God be with them all, and with all the fine brave rescue workers.
