I am considering a cruise that ends in Miami, then I want to visit friends in Tampa. I located a train from Miami to Tampa (Silver Star?), leaves Miami early in the morning, so I need to locate a hotel in the vicinity for one night. If going from cruise terminal in Miami to train station in Miami, does anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive hotel, no more than $100? Also, couldn't find a schedule on the "net" for Silver Star. Is it Amtrak?

Yes. The train you are looking for specifically is Amtrak #92, the northbound 'Silver Star'. You can find it's timetable on the Amtrak website. Select 'schedules' from the top toolbar and then scroll down to the box for 'Auto Train, Carolinian, Palmetto, Silver Service. That should take you to it but you'll have to enlarge the page to actually be able to read it.

As for a hotel, others more familiar with Miami may have suggestions but I do know there is a Red Roof Inn near the Miami Airport which isn't too far from the Amtrak station. That would at least give you a reasonably decent room for the under $100.00 you cite.

Hope you're able to do this and that you have a nice trip.

Kitty, the n/b 'Silver Star' schedule changed effective 8/1/05 so make sure that it is a currect schedule you are looking at.

:-)
