Very nice article. I spent a night in Kansas City in 2002 (coming and going by train)shortly before Amtrak moved it's offices back into the grand union station. I can't wait to get back and see that station again.

It's a beaut. Reminds me of Grand Central Station with all the marble. Looks also to be a major cultural center, with exhibits and entertainment.

Any city that saves and restores its railroad structures is OK with me. Now if we can restore or build some commuter lines we might have something here.

As a Kansas City metro area guy,
We can't get Jackson and Johnson Counties to agree on funding the next generation of sports stadiums. Who thinks they'll pass something as mundane and essential as commuter service?
BTW, does Clay Chastain have a day job?

The Next Generation?? Busch Stadium is younger then I am. It was the only cookie cutter stadium from the 60's with any personality. Only improvement needed was putting the grass back in. Did you know....Shea Stadium in NY was suppose to be the first cookie cutter design but they ran out of money. Its nice that both St Louis and Kansas City restored there great Union Stations and they put grass on their ball fields. Astro Turf in Missouri? was there a problem growing the stuff?
