After spotting a notice on the Amtrak website I applied to become a volunteer member of the ACAC. I got an e-mail this weekend thanking me for my interest and recognizing my qualification for the position but stating that the positions had all been filled. They said that my application would be held on file for possible future openings.
Does anyone know how many members there actually are and who they are? The Amtrak website is quite general and doesn't give a link for contact to the committee.
I had thought that this would be a good chance to combine a volunteer experience with my travels on Amtrak.

Well-done! You're to be congratulated for trying to take an active part in improving Amtrak. I saw the announcement too, and I'm curious as to who this committee is, and how effective they are at instituting change.
Unfortunately, I haven't the time to devote to ACAC at present, but I did post information about this opportunity on another forum. My posting sank without areply. It's surprising there was no interest.
I don't find a direct link to the committee either, but I imagine Customer Service would forward any message to them.

The process of applying was fun. I had not had to do a resume in almost 40 years. (I held the same job at the same school for 35 years!) They did mention that they try to seek a balance of business vs. leisure travelers and a widespread geographical base. I guess they already had their quota of West Coast Retiree Leisure Travelers!

I do not remember how I heard about it, but I also applied about 4 years ago. I think they were soliciting applications on a train or in a station. Also rejected in the same way. People have told me I do good resume's, but I almost was afraid I sounded overzealous as an advocate for long distance passenger rail.

I was at a TXARP meeting a few years ago and was approached by one of the Advisory Board members. If you are interested, attend some of their meetings and chat with some of them. The one I met was very friendly and talkative.

I also applied last year and was thanked and excused in a similar manner. I think I heard about it on this board. I was very enthusiastic - still am, actually. I guess that's not a qualification!

It is my understanding that if you get recommended by a member, you will probably get in. That's why I suggest meeting some of them at one of their meetings.
