My daughter would like to visit a friend attending SLU and I can't seem to find out how she would get from the Amtrak Station to the University.
Any advise on the most economical way? Should I be worried about her at the station alone? The State House arrives quite late, but is currently discounted (not very much, sadly) for her dates of travel.

I guess, Ms. Mary, she is not the typical college student today with an auto provided by Mom and Dad.
Best bet is for her is to determine, to best extent (Julie or website), the arrival time of your #301 and take a taxicab to meet you. "At the station alone" is the least of it.

I lived in St. Louis a few years ago, and while she could catch the light rail a few blocks from the Amtrak station to get to SLU, I wouldn't recommend walking around that part of town at night.
SLU is less than 3 miles from the station, so the cab fare wouldn't be too outrageous. You can't hail cabs on the street in St. Louis, so she will need to call the cab company directly if there aren't any cabs at the station. I recommend Laclede Cab. I always found them to be reliable and honest.

Let me second the recommendation for Laclede Cab (314 621-3456). There are usually other cabs waiting for all arriving trains, but Laclede is by far the most reliable, safe and reasonably priced. If your daughter has a cell phone, have her call them ten minutes or so before the train arrives. I've used them for years and have never had any complaints.

I appreciate your advice. As it turns out, the fare was too high for a spur of the moment trip, so she stayed home with the family. But when I think about all the money I'm "saving" by not giving her a car OR a cell phone, I guess I could have popped for the rail fare!
I'll save the info for a future train trip with my younger children.
