My 2 kids and I will have something like a 6 hour wait for a train in Orlando early next year. Am I right that it would be best to wait elsewhere than the depot? Is there any sort of convenience store nearby where we could get sandwiches and cold drinks? Is there a checkroom or lockers for carry-on bags? Is the station open all day, or just at train times? If we get a day room at the airport hotel for the wait, which I'm leaning toward, what sort of travel time should we allow for a 4:30 PM train? How early must we check our bags? How often does this train really leave at 4:30?

There is a very good hot *** stand right next to the station and a small restaurant across the street. No lockers or check room. Orlando is much small than Chicago or Philadelphia. The station is open during daylight hours. If you take a taxi from the airport give yourself an hour travel time especially on weekdays. Plan to arrive one hour before departure. Baggage check-in is at the end of the platform, to your right as you face the tracks. I usually check the AMTRAK web site several days ahead to see if the trains are running late on avaerage. I hope this helps.
