I use to see this a lot 25 years ago. Why use a switcher? Will it not run out of fuel before the other engines? Friends of 4449 webpage

With its smaller engine, it also uses less fuel. However, refueling does not normally wait until the engines are near dry, but is usually done at the start or end of every run, or at set locations for run throughs.

More likely the BN liveried MP-15 and GP-38 are simply "dead in tow'. Any such locomotives are placed at the head of a consist.

Take a closer look Gilbert, there is no GP-38 in that group.

Yah but The GP-38 is is only being mentioned because it to isnt likely to be used for anything more than switching or light work

The tracks here, UP put the GP's to work. I saw a 4 engine, all GP, pulling a long gravel train...TODAY.
