I've just read with interest a reply on another topic on this forum about stoping to wait for a van to be cleared from tracks and for a swing bridge to swing shut.

It put me in mind of our two unscheduled stops; one on the WB CZ and there other on the EB LSL in June of 2004.

The CZ made an unscheduled stop in Battle Mountain, NV. Never mind that there's no station in Battle Mountain, we waited two hours for a replacement operating crew to come from Sparks to relieve our operating crew that ran out of time right in the middle of down town Battle Mountain, NV (pop:2,900).

On the LSL we made an unscheduled stop (time-wise) in Cleveland,OH, when the train driver ran a red signal and the conductor removed him from service. There we waited about four hours for a replacement to arrive from Buffalo.

Any one else have similar experiences?

Best regards,
Rodger

I guess four stops within 24 hours counts. Firstly a rockslide in the Rockies somewhere. Next, eastbound into Denver the crew ran out of hours. Thirdly when the train hit a car (fatal). Finally when the crew ran out of hours again, due to the collision. Seven hours late on that one, in part also due to trackwork in California.
