The amtrak site says that the Roomette can hold 2 small tote bags. If I am traveling by myself, can it hold 2 small rolling suitcases? Is there perhaps room under the seat or beside the seat to put these? Thanks bunches

It depends on your definition of "small". You could always have the upper berth down and stow them there but that makes it a little claustrophobic down below. I'd pack carefully and keep one bag for the things you need with you in the roomette and the other downstairs in the luggage storage area.

If the bags are small enough they will fit under the seat.

I hope this helps.

On one of my trips I measured the space under the seats in a Roomette to be
9½" tall
23½" wide
26" deep

The space under each seat is the same, so you have two spaces this size. A standard carry-on bag will usually fit under there, as long as it isn't overstuffed and bulging like my sister does it.

But note, you cannot access the space when the seats are converted to a bed.

Additional luggage storage for suitcases is available in the hall on the lower lever of a Superliner, or the end of the hall on a Viewliner.

A standard 25" Samsonite roll-on suitcase will fit nicely on the step to the upper bunk in a roomette. I bought my 25" specifically for my Amtrak trips.

Here's a link to what I mean:

A 26" will NOT work!

I always keep one totebag with "essentials" with me and place it on the step. My laptop goes under one seat. Everything else is stored in the luggage rack on the lower level. (That luggage rack is easy enough to get to if you need something.)I find anything more in the roomette makes the room become much too "closed in".

Thanks. I'll rearrange the stuff that I packed to more closely mirror this arrangement. I would check one of my bags, but my original destination was Los Angeles and I have decided to detrain in Anaheim instead. I can't actually change my tickets unless I pay Amtrak a lot more money -- so my tickets still say LA. Will there by room on the luggage rack downstairs for me to store 2 small suitcases?

Usually it's not a problem for 2 small suitcases on the lower rack of a sleeper, especially if you're getting on early in the route
