On my recent Coast Starlight trip report, our train terminated in Santa Barbara due to tunnel work being done by Metrolink in Chatsworth.

Since we had to take a motorcoach from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles, I called Amtrak and was transfered to "Customer Relations" and told I would be sent a coupon in the mail for the lateness/bus.

A week later, I was pleased to open up an envelope from Amtrak with two $100 Travel Certificates (2 passengers). The back of the vouchers even stated they could be used together for $200 off my next trip!

This is the first time Amtrak has ever reimbursed me, but I am very glad I called and I hope other people who encounter the bus from Santa Barbara do the same thing.

Even when Amtrak had their short-lived quality guarantee program I would call asking for relief in only the most extreme circumstances - Like when faced with a bustitution rather than enjoying a sleeping car accomodation.

The voucher they sent me for annulling the Sunset Limited in El Paso one year and busing us OVERNIGHT to San Antonio actually covered a first-class trip on the Crescent the following spring en route to a family reunion in Massachusetts.
