I will be flying into Boston and then take the Downeaster to Portland. What is the best way to get from Logan to North Station and how long does it take? In Boston is there is a hotel near the station? And finally, has anyone ridden the Downeaster - is it worth getting business class seats? Thanks for the help

Hi Palmland,
If you have limited luggage, your best bet would be to take the T (subway).. take a shuttle outside any terminal to the Airport station, take the Blue line inbound to State station, then transfer to an Orange Line outbound to North Station. It's very easy, the stations are very well marked. If you have lots of luggage you might want to consider a cab though.. Logan is not that far away from downtown. There are two great hotels a five minute walk from the station; The Shawmut Inn is a clean, comfortable place for a good price (around 100-150, which is reasonable by Boston standards). If you want something more upscale consider the Oynx Hotel, which is a new properly with rooms starting around 150. Both are on Friend St. And yes, it is worth getting Business Class. It's only a few extra dollars and they use former northeast Club Class cars with big cushy seats. The cafe car attendent serves you a soft drink at your seat... well worth it. Enjoy your trip!!

Thanks for the info. But, my mistake - I meant to ask for a recommendation on a hotel near the station in Portland. Sounds like Business class is really worth it.

There is a DoubleTree right next to the station in Portland(I walked easily). There are several cheaper places, but all that I know about have a fairly extensive cab ride associated with them.

Portland Hotel- Here are some hotels other than the DoubleTree. There are two bed and breakfast in Portland-The Pomegranate and the West End Inn. The Eastland Hotel in downtown has been renovated. There are several hotels in Old Port. All of these mean a taxi ride.
