I noticed something on Amtrak's monthly statistics for March that the program for developing a prototype for Viewliner overhauls has been canceled. I also notice no "light overhauls" listed in the capital production summary report. What is going on with this program?

I also noted this and an interesting comment about an Amfleet II overhaul.

Gunn & Co. were pushing for an additional Viewliner purchase in the future to replace the Heritage Dorm, Baggage and Diner cars (part of his Strategic Plan that was released). What design form these cars were going to take had yet to be seen (i.e. were they also looking to have a Viewliner designed for both lounge and dining purposes, as rumored etc.). Reports surfaced that some of the original Viewliner prototypes were brought to the Wilmington shops for a look over.

As for a diner, Amtrak seems to be experimenting with overhauling an Amfleet II cafe/lounge to try and make it be the diner/lounge for the new simplified dining service. And Amtrak has seemed to place a hold on developing/designing new car orders.

So not surprised to see Viewliner prototypes - meant for long distance trains - put on hold.

Its just too bad the original 100 Viewliners were not funded in the initial purchase, as we desparately need the Viewliner sleepers for one thing.
