Wasn't this tried at one time? If so, what happened to it? I would've paid dearly for Internet access NYP-WAS and return.

Hopefully, with a little more time, there will be WiFi on board, at least with the Northeast Corridor trains. I hope it would expand to most Amtrak trains.

Get the Verizon Nationwide Broadband plan. It's $60 per month, and you have to sign up for a Verizon phone plan, but you can get on the Internet literally anywhere you have a cell signal.
Under ideal conditions, I have gotten speeds twice as fast as a DSL modem. I have also used it on trains such as the Sunset Limited out in the middle of NOWHERE. The speed's not great then (about a 56k modem) but at least I can connect.
I love it! When I commute on the Surfliners, I can open my laptop and be on the Internet all the way!

They really need it back on the Acela. Currently, Wifi is available on the Capitol Corridor (Northern California) but now it is mostly pay to click, and is sponsored by several different companies which you have to "sign up" for. The only other train besides those two I recall is the Hiawatha. But I beleive it to was only under "experiment" and was not permanent.
