The Sunset yesterday flew by with 3 extra coaches. It was going too fast so I could only Identify the lounge is back. Last week a 5 coach train, now an 8 coach train.

Nope the Sightseers aren't back but I think they finally realized that it is gaining ridership so they put on an extra Coach.

So there is a Lounge?? I'll have to go down and see it at the station today and see for myself. Thanks for the tip!

Yep, a lounge plus 2 additional coaches. I saw Sunset the first week of June outside Houston. 2 Engine 5 coaches. Yesterday I counted 8 coaches.

Just got back from meeting the train. It was a Snack-coach with a full house upstairs there was also a tour group in one of the extra cars. I woundn't want to be traveling Coach if I were them just a look and almost every seat in every car is taken! I wonder what they do for a Lounge? Normally they open half of the Diner but it was during the dinner hour and it looks like all the tables were taken up. I didn't get to check the Sleepers they were already getting ready to leave.

Sunset has been riding full for a long time. I hope Amtrak has taken notice. Daily hint hint.

Just waiting for them to start.

Amtrak can go daily with the minimum of equiment. They could run 1 engine 4 coach train to complete the daily service. I'm sure they have 3 sets of 1 engine 4 coaches set.

I rode the SL from Los Angeles to El Paso in mid-March; it was not at all crowded.
I am planning a loop trip the end of June out to LA and ending up in Albuquerque. I checked on going out to LA on coach via the SL and it was more expensive than going out via the SWC. In addition, the reservations clerk said that the SL was 75% full, whereas the SWC was about 1/2 full at the time I called, so I went with the SWC. I might hazard a guess that the SL has a higher ridership in the Summer when folks from LA go back to the South to visit, or vice versa.

The SL coach attendant said people are begining to realize train travel is cheaper and more comfortable than Greyhound.
