Hi folks, I was recently reading on another forum about late departures out of NYP.
I have a couple of ?s
1- If train is sched. to depart 3:20 pm and is delayed prior to boarding, can we leave station and go have more fun. Will they just show delayed and we have to hang aroung station for hours?
2- Seemed the delay may have been due to something on track and commuter trains being sent out first. QUESTION : We will be departing NYP on Labor Day,(a holiday) will this increase our chances of on time departure and arrival?

1. unfortunately,usually there is no precise time given when train is delayed. And if a time was given I would be reluctant to take it verbatim as it could still change.
2. Leaving on a holiday does proportionately increase your odds of leaving on time as there is less commuter traffic as well as slightly less work for mechanical in SSYD due to less corridor service as well.

Sometimes there is less freight traffic on holidays as well. I did a trip on the 'Cardinal' the day after Thanksgiving about five years ago. We encountered no freight traffic.......not a single moving freight train at all.....through the entire state of West Virginia. We were about 5-10 minutes early into every station.

I would not recommend leaving the station (and even in the station would check the boards frequently). I have too often seen a train go from delayed to boarding in the blink of an eye. This is the sort of circumstance that books or hand held games were invented for. Since I often travel on Thanksgiving weekend I can attest that there seems to be less "other traffic" than at other times.
