Ok fellow railfans I'm booked to go from San Jose-Stockton-Bakersfield-LA-Lamy-LA-SJC(Coast Starlight). I leave on January 4th and return on January 11th.

My question is will the scenery be extra nice from LA-Lamy due to the snow? Do you think I will see some snow around Flagstaff and Lamy?

Anyone here has photos of the Lower Level Coach that they can post?

Happy Holidays and I'll keep you posted.

Sounds like a nice winter trip. My pictures out the window a month prior to your trip are at:

I'd say the best bet will be at Flagstaff, but you might be there before sunrise heading eastbound. Otherwise, not much snow on this route. I followed a 12 inch snowfall that fell in Nov., and it was almost all gone through La Plata, MO, by Dec. 8.

Best snow I've seen was on CA Zephyr west of Reno, in CA mtns. You could go on to Raton, NM, on the SW CHief, Amtrak Bus to Denver, catch the Zephyr there, but probably too late for all that.

Enjoy your trip, there's some 90 mph track east of Barstow, CA, making for good sleeping the first night you leave LA!
