Here's another route question for you guys -- I will be updating my route maps of the Sunset Ltd soon also -- in a thread several months ago (I forgot what the title of it was), it was stated that the Sunset between Houston and Beaumont uses bi-directional running -- the eastbound route is different than the westbound route. Can someone explain again where each of these routes are, or, better still, provide a link to a UP system rail map map showing both routes perhaps?

(please don't tell me things like "Acme Tower to MP 111.5 to Dove Junction," since those features are NOT shown on DeLorme's 3-D Topo Quads!!!!!)

Thanks a lot! -- "Railroad Rich" in Florida

Look at this guy map.

http://www.trainweb.org/jssand/Houston/A-HoNuMasFrw.pdf

Sunset uses #4 going to Beaumont from Houston.
Sunset uses #5 coming from Beaumont to Houston.

He explains #4 and #5 here:

Oh yeah, the two routes stay about 5 to 10 miles apart depending on location. Then merge inside Beaumont here:

Off-topic, but that reminds me of the Sunset's three possible routings between LA and Pomona:

1. Metrolink between LA and El Monte, then UP Alhambra Sub
2. UP Alhambra Sub all the way
3. UP LA Sub
