I finally finished a trip report for my travels at the end of January.
For the first time I tried using a new web site for it, so I hope there are not too many technical glitches. Speaking of which, the Apple geeks had me split it into 5 web pages so it would work better. So at the top of each web page, there is a link to the other 4 pages. Wasn't life simpler before computers?

Thank you for this trip report! My wife and I took the Southwest Chief to Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon several years ago when it was considered Amtrak's best train. It still sounds excellent.
I have not yet taken the train to New Orleans but intend to do so someday just to get some of that catfish.

Good report and glad to see someone else using a Mac. We have to stick together.
One comment, though, the Continental Divide is between Grants and Gallup.

Mike, you do write a good report. It was like being there. I had one problem. On the 3rd page the pictures covered most of the writing so I missed a lot. I enjoyed the pictures

How did you get from LA to Tucson?

He flew to Tucson Chris. I loved the report but noted also that the pictures have slipped over the text on the SWC part and the last page. Let us know when you get it fixed so I can go back and read that portion. I plan to be on the Chief in June and want to read all about it.

Thanks for your comments. Sorry about the photos slipping. I have reported it to Apple so let's see what they say.
This was why I had to split it into multiple pages and it finally looked ok on the web on my computer when I checked it out. Apparently not the case for all of you. Very strange.

Thanks Mike! It was fun to read. It was encouraging to read that the trains/service were in fairly good shape. I guess it's true that the quality of the meals depends on the efforts put forth in the kitchen. I called that "grandma magic". My grandmother was always working up a good meal with what was available in the kitchen. Thanks again for the report. If you have time to adjust some of the pictures I'll definitely revisit the report.......Fred

The best steak I ever had on an Amtrak train (back when they had steak of course) was on the northbound City of New Orleans four or five summers ago. I told the folks I was dining with that. A few minutes later this huge (350 pounds and 6'6" at least) black man wearing the chef's hat emerges from the kitchen stairway. The guy sitting next to me yells to him in mock disgust "Did you cook this steak?"
The chef answers "Yeah. What about it?" My new 'friend' points to me and answers "This guy here says it's the BEST steak he ever ate on an Amtrak train."
Our chef breaks into a million dollar grin and says "I'm from New Orleans. We've got our standards here."

A good report, but as reported by several others the pictures on some of the pages covered the text.

Great report! No problems at all with the pictures slipping but, then, I use a Mac as well.

I have hopefully corrected the problems some of you were having with the photos covering the text. Sorry for the inconvenience.
According to Apple it has something to do with the browser being used and the oprating system. Bet they didn't have those problems when the railroads used the telegraph to communicate!

Thanks so much for posting the link to your trip report. I read all of it and did not have any problem with pictures blocking text.
Btw, do you have any other reports posted? If so I'd love to read them.
