I didn't think anyone would go back to the post about the CZ change-of-route this summer and want to know if UP workers are on the job during weekends? If not, and the Zephyr is still going through the rockies, I'll change the date of my trip. Thanks, all. Best guesses appreciated.

Although any "non-op' (MofW, mechanical, clerical) Agreement calls for assignments providing two consecutive days of rest, there is nothing automatic about those "Rest Days" (the term used in railroad labor agreements) being Sat and Sun. Therefore MofW work could well be in process on a Sunday.

No matter what answer you get from anybody now, sutton (and sojourner), as I said in the other thread there is no "for sure" involved with this.
Your train will be in the hands of the BNSF/UP Joint Line dispatcher, and he or she can route you either way. Even if the MofW guys aren't now "scheduled" to work on Sats. or Suns., suppose there is a streak of bad weather that week, and they have to change the schedule?
Unfortunately, Amtrak's terms of service do not include a guaranty on the route taken to get from Point A to Point B. If I were you, I would book the trip and hope for the best.

Thanks all, I have now rebooked for a Sat/Sun trip, but what the heck, if we get rerouted, I'll get to see Wyoming, so it doesn't matter that much. Besides, this gives me a couple of days in San Fran during the weekdays, when it's bound to be more lively than the weekend.

Well, the same Amtrak person who told me the Capitol Ltd delays caused by track work should be ending April 12 also told me she checked re the Zephyr and the UP track work that will be causing the announced detour has been put off till July.
That is when they did it last year, July and August.
