I'll be traveling to St. Charles, Missouri, soon. The train to take is, of course, one of several Amtrakers from CHI to STL, but are there any denizens of St. Louis on this forum who can tell me how to get from STL to St. Charles?

Try this link:

I grew up in St Louis. Visit frequently - 3-4 times a year. We have a couple of STL folk - STLboomer and unclebuck who post periodically. I would certainly defer to their information as current residents.

Meanwhile - I did some searching. The St Louis metro bus service apparently does not go out of St Louis County in Missouri although it does go to Illinois. City of St Charles is across the MO River in St Charles County, MO. The closest the metrolink (light rail) goes is the St Louis airport. It appears to one way to get to St C is to take the Metro Link from the Amtrak Station (actual adjacent to the station) to the North Hanley Station. The SCAT (St Charles area transit - that's the above link) has buses going there from St Charles. Appears they are none too frequent. The North Hanley stop is near I 70 which goes to St Charles. You could also take light rail to the airport and a cab from the airport. That is a few miles closer to St Charles but still an good 15 - 20 miles I think.

If the link doesn't work, google St. Charles Area Transit. You're talking 40 miles from the down town station so a cab would likely be expensive. Although as a former cab driver, I would not discourage you from making someones night with an $80 fare.

Long answer and a long link - repeated below. Good luck.

Great advice, Ira.

I'd suggest taking light rail from the Amtrak station to the airport and then calling a local cab company to pick you up at the airport. I did a websearch and came up with a few, such as:

http://www.stcharlescountycab.com/services.html

Or you could simply hop in a cab that's already waiting at the airport. However, because they operate under a franchise they are bit more expensive than the other companies.

Enjoy your visit!

Hey Boomer

Good idea about calling an outside company. They are cheaper.

Meanwhile - I know I am driving in for my 40th High School Reunion in August. U City Class of 67. Will hit Blueberry Hill and a few Italian spots on the Hill. Maybe Soulard. Check out my alma mater - Wash U and Webster.

I'll take my kids for a ride on the Zoo Train anyway.

Thanks. I'll take the light rail to Lambert Airport, then the hostelry where I'm staying in St. Charles will come pick me up there free.
