Have Y'all seen the article on railnews.net about a murder on the EB? It would make a wonderful mystery story. I must say a lot ot the article was tongue in cheek but that just added to the fun of it.(the article not the murder which was very real)

See, you can't trust the media. It will always interview the passengers for the juiciest possible sound bites and quotes and ashcan the rest. And none of the newspapers thought to interview that dotty old blue-haired British lady passenger, Miss Marple, who obviously knew the perpetrator. I had this straight from a reliable and trustworthy passenger who rode the EB that day. Fellow named Spleen, I think. Mucky Spleen or something like that.

Well Henry, they did interview Miss Marple but unfortunately couldn't understand her thick Yorkshire Accent. and those darn knitting needles are so distracting. Of course if Poirot hadn't gotten off at the previous stop his little grey cells would have provided the answer. As to Mr. spleen I think he was just trying to muck things up.

Why, the Onion is the most reliable news source in the world! It's the most quoted source on Quickipedia.
The Onion recently posted a fascinating and informative video on YouTube about how American mothers are outsourcing their child care to China. You pack the urchins with lots of styrofoam peanuts in ventilated cardboard boxes and send them UPS Next Day Air to Beijing, where bargain amahs are waiting to take them in tow. Now why didn't I think of that?

Is this for real? I assume it is not, but I am not familiar with "The Onion." The story doesn't make sense anyway -- if this "murder" happened in the "early morning," 2 hours out of Chicago, at Tomah, WI, then the EB must have left CHI very very very late, then set an all-time AMTRAK speed record of 120 mph all the way from CHI to Tomah, with NO intermediate stops.......

Rich, I am assuming that this is a figment of someone's imagination. At first I thught it was real but when I reread it I realized the same things you did. I am not familiar with "the Onion" either and I can't say I want to be. However I still think this article is "fun".

The Onion does most excellent satire. There is no real news on this site, but some of the stories sometimes seem closer to reality than the "real" news. Both frightening and funny at the same time, sometimes.

Did anyone notice the photo? It's not even an Amtrak train. It looks like a BART train.
It was a clever story. I like the subtle way the story contrasted romantic mystery novels with the way murders are actually investigated. It certainly reads like a legitimate news story, but the photo should have been a clue to the railfan that something was not quite legit. As Forrest Gump said, "Keep your bull$#!^ detector in good working order."
My favorite Onion headline was the one that read something like "9/11 hijackers shocked to discover they're in hell"
