I was hoping some of the experts here could give me a quick answer to this - I am getting ready to take a trip from LA and will be driving to Union Station (I have taken several trips from here but never needed to park my car)
What is the parking available at the station? I will need to leave my car for 5 nights.
Thanks!

According to the Amtrak california website long term parking is $10 a day and is staffed 24 hours a day. Fullerton seems to have free long term parking in a parking structure. I know you probably dont have a choice of stations and even though I live closer to LA than Fullerton I always go to the latter, nicer area.

Cubzo, I have always parked at Union Station for $6 per day and the website seems to say that is still the price. The Fullerton parking is interesting - maybe I will try that sometime.
Here is the website I got the $6 price from:

Miss Vicki

I believe that you meant to write $6 per day, not per hour.

Yep Richard, fixed that to $6 per day. Not sure if they have raised the rates and not updated the websites or what. The parking I use is in the MTA building. To park in the open Union Station lots is an hourly rate maximum $12 so long term there is $12 per day. Go for the MTA building, it is covered, safe and the lowest price, whatever that is today.

Thanks for the info - I did see the 6.00 parking when I checked that site before.

My concern, if my train (the CS) arrives in its usual late fashion I will be arriving (with my young child) at possibly midnight or 3:00 am or some awful hour.

How safe will it be for us to get from the station to our car at that lot?

How far is that walk and is there any security around?
Thanks again!

I feel the lot is safe. It is a close, indoor walk from where the trains come in, down there on tracks 11-12. There probably wouldn't be people around in the structure other than at the exit gate, unless others coming in on the train are heading that way too. So that might be a little creepy. I have never heard of any trouble there.
We just came in on the CS but it was pretty early, 10:15 pm. There were tons of people around the terminal but no one else went into the parking garage with us. I think there are cameras, don't know if there is any live security.

Coast Starlight arrives 'early' at 10:15pm.

Once I joked with my wife that an Amtrak train is considered 'on-time' if it arrives on the same calendar day expected.

Looks like it's now reality and not a joke.

I think that's what we'll use then. We are driving up from San Diego - we are not chancing taking the Pacific Surfliner because we are worried about making the southbound connection. We have taken the CS before but always had a ride to the station or connected via the Surfliner - so this will be an adventure.
