I will be driving from AZ to Fullerton in late September and will be riding the Surfliner to San Diego, round trip. My hotel is near Fullerton and I would like to park my auto near the Fullerton Station so that It would be convinient when I return about 2100 hrs. Is this possible? Practical? Thanks for any advice.

There are several parking spaces at the train station, however they fill up fast and early with all the commuters.
There is also a parking structure that usually has available spaces. I'm not exactly sure how long you are allowed to park there, but I've parked for several hours without any problems. If it's just a day I think you're fine.
But is you really want to be on the safe side, you can ask for a long term parking pass from the Amtrak attendant in the station. I did this recently for an extended Southwest Chief trip. You are allowed up to 14 days, but I doubt anyone checks this. I went the full 14 days exactly and when I got back my car was still there. Not sure what would happen if I went 15 days

No problem, just get there early if it's a weekday! You can park for up to 72 hours in the parking structure diagonally northeast from the station. No pass needed. I've parked there for 48 hours with no problem.
In the open lot east of the station, you can park there all day without problems. I think parking in that lot is prohibited from 2am-5am. I've left my car there from 5am-11pm when I go to San Luis Obispo, and never had problems.

The lot east of the station is free and all day. Beware, during the week this lot is usually full by 6:30am. The lots in front of the station, west of the station (by the Spaghetti Factory) and across Santa Fe Ave. are 3 hours only. You will get a ticket if you park there longer. The parking structure east of the station and across Santa Fe is free and has 72 hour parking. You can park in this lot longer if you get a pass from Amtrak. Same problem with the all day lot though, if you're not in there by 6:30am you probably won't find a space. You can try public streets but that probably depend on which streets you try to park on. The lot on Wilshire and Pomona is a 3 hour lot. They used to let you park all day on the upper level but that's no more from what I understand. There is a lot on Pomona and Chapman that you can park at for the whole day. The cost is 2-3 dollars but you have to be out by 11pm if I recall correctly.
Weekends are usually not a problem in the morning for the all day lots. Hope this helps.
